10 random acts of kindness for kids - and parents too!

As part of kindness week here at Strong Roots, we have been thinking a lot about the little things we can do to show kindness and caring to others in our communities.

Living, learning and working in supportive, loving environments is extremely important, not just for children in their developmental years, but also for the adults that surround them and help them to grow.

This weekend we started wondering; how can we do more to help to support each other, especially during the very difficult time many people have faced due to Covid-19?

So with a little brainstorming, we came up with a list of 10 random acts of kindness that are easy for children to do all on their own.

1. Hold the door open for the person behind you.

2. Write a thank you card to a friend or family member and tell them how much they mean to you.

3. Leave a note tucked inside a library book for the next reader to find

4. Set the table as a surprise for your family - maybe even add some flowers from the garden.

5. Give your pet a belly rub.

6. Give your mom or dad a big hug when they get home from work.

7. Bake cookies for your grandparents and sit with them while they eat them. Ask them to tell you a story about when they were your age - below is a photo of the cookies Alegra baked for her grandmother. She LOVES cookies and thought these were the best!

8. Invite someone different to sit with you in the lunchroom at school.

9. Let someone go ahead of you in line.

10. Bring flowers for your teacher.
